Platymeris biguttata, White-eyed Assassin Bug

Platymeris biguttata, White-eyed Assassin Bug
Assassin bugs stalk their prey, impale them with sharp, straw-like mouthparts—and drain them dry! Their spots startle predators, who mistake them for the eyes of a much larger animal. Other defense mechanisms include a painful bite and the ability to spray nasty saliva.
